Sydney

Posted: October 15, 2010 in Uncategorized

Sydney! Finally I arrived to the largest city in Australia, 4,5 million population! It’s huuuge! Unfortunately my flight Melbourne-Sydney was cancelled (damn Tiger airlines!!)  and I couldn’t stay over there as long as I planned.

I really really really liked Opera House, and I loved hanging around there. Suddenly I felt like I’ve moved in a magic way to a place from a postcard which I had on my wall long time ago:) Such a beautiful feeling… So many of my photos include the Opera from different perspectives, angles and distances:)

Close look at the Opera gives you a feeling that is made of kitchen tiles;)

Really cool thing – water TAXI !

Tube. So similar to London.

and this! This is exactly like in London. They use even the same colours and fonts for noticeboards.

Aborigines making a living.

Walk in botanic gardens. One area was full of bats! They were hanging on trees and looked like some kind of massive fruits.  Some of them were fighting and making ear-piercing sounds! At some point I got scared…

Room in our hostel looked more like a room in mental institution, but it was very cheap:)

This is NOT photoshoped, and this is NOT a postcard:) Surfing kangaroos – only in Sydney!

KISMET Magazine

Great Ocean Road

Posted: October 6, 2010 in Uncategorized

The Great Ocean Road is a 243-kilometre stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia. The road was built by returned soldiers between 1919 and 1932, and is the world’s largest war memorial, which is dedicated to casualties of  World War I.

In one of places we’ve stopped we were able to see kangaroos in wild!:)

A walk in the rainforest..

Koalas sitting on trees!!:) I absolutely fell in love with them. Sooooo cute;)

Famous Twelve Apostles

and some other rock formations sticking out of the water along the cost….

and at the end London Bridge, which doesn’t look like a London Bridge:)

Kings Canyon

Posted: October 3, 2010 in Uncategorized

It took us quite long time to get to the Kings Canyon. We drove through the desert which doesn’t like like a desert! Apparently it has rained a lot in recent years and this is the reason why desert is green. Climate is changing…

It seems like rain from Bergen is moving towards Northern Territory:)

On our way we spotted wild camels. They were brought to Australia around 200 years ago to help the builders:) They are perfect desert animals, which can live 4 weeks without water, they will sense the water from 400 km, and at once they can drink 250 litres!

I love those petrol stations every few hundreds kilometres :)

Kings Canyon is situated within the Watarrka National Park, and is a huge canyon 270m high. We took a few hours walk around.

Lack of sugar manifests in licking the rocks ;)

Uluru and Kata Tjuta

Posted: September 30, 2010 in Uncategorized

Driving to Uluru took us few hours. Good that we had many stops where we could stretch our legs.

Camping places for tourists looked very attractive ;)

Some snaps from a car window.

At one of the places we’ve stopped we could say hello to a local Dingo.

a kangaroo

very ugly emu

and…

and we could have a ride on a camel for $6!

Petrol Stations got smaller and smaller….

Firstly we drove to Kata Tjuta which means ‘many heads’. It lies 32km from Uluru.

And finally Uluru! 450km from alice Springs, 348m above the plain, 863m above the sea level.

Eriko and her 3 cameras:)

We stayed there for a sunset…

…and we came back for a sunrise!

What lives there? I have no idea… a desert mole? :)

We took a walk around whole Uluru, which is over 7 km! In summer temperature goes up to 45 degrees C and in winteres it can be as cold as -5 degrees.

Mel & Nick.

Usually there is a possibility to climb on Uluru. 35 people died so far. On that day were we were there climbing was closed because of the strong wind. Aborigines don’t want people to climbe on it. It’s a sacred place for them. They believe that spirits live inside it. There were many places around Uluru were taking photos wasn’t allowed, with the fine of $5,000!

There were 2 different kinds of sacred places: only for women and only for men. In a sacred places only for women, women were having special rituals or giving a birth. If a man looked at that place(or even saw it on the photo) it had to be punished. Punishments were cruel. With a use of special plant, other Aborigines made him blind for 3 days and send to a  desert. Which could be difficult to survive. Or they pierced a spear through knees and elbows of the punished person… cruel and strict laws…

Aboriginal paintings.

Red Centre Camping Safari

Posted: September 30, 2010 in Uncategorized

The highlight of my trip – camping safari!:) We drove around 450km from Alice Springs in one of these kind of cars.

We stayed at 2 different locations. One of the was close to Uluru and Kata Tjuta and the second was close to Kings Canyon. Each camping place had 12 tents made of thin fabric, a kitchen, BBQ place, toilets and showers. So it wasn’t too bad after all!

Our guide getting ready for night.

In order to have a fire we had to collect some wood.

Together with Helene we thought it would be an awesome idea to drink few beers before going to sleep. They’ll warm us up! It was soooo cold out there. First night 5 degrees Celsius and on the second night 8!! auuuu!!Anyway we decided to sleep outside in a something called ‘swag’. Sleeping outside wasn’t easy. Beers helped only for a little while, and later on at night I woke up cos I had to go to toilet…. I didn’t get any beers for the second night….

Swag… You have to put your sleeping bag inside it and just hope that you won’t freeze… I had on me 7 different layers of almost all jumpers and t-shirts I took with me, 2 pairs of trousers and 3 pairs of socks! But it was worth it! The sky was amazing on that night!

There was also a possibility to sleep inside the tent. Thin walls and windows on sides! Sounds really warm. Anyway I choose this option for the second night. It was because of too many living creatures around. There were so many ants on the ground, which you wouldn’t want to have in your swag.  The other reason why I didn’t want to sleep outside – Dingos… Wild dogs in Australia. Other girl from a camp next to us had said that dingo came to her at night to smell her… apparently they are very curious, they come to you at night to sniff at you. They would also steal your shoes and other belongings which you would have left around you. Our guide said that they won’t hurt us.. OK… Just some time ago, a dingo ate a baby in Australia… I’ve been told it’s because it was wild and people were feeding him so he associated people with food. When he couldn’t get food from people as he was used to he got angry…. That’s way you should never ever feed wild animals.

Before going to sleep we had to check our tents for unwanted guests. Some of us had mice. I found a spider, which I killed straight away. I think it is good year, few years ago, there were plenty of black scorpions and some weird biting caterpillars…

Check every corner… Check every corner… Check every corner…

This was our kitchen and dining place. We had to cook for ourselves!

My grandmother had better pots 50 years ago… :)

BBQ! Kangaroo Steak and Camel Sausages! mmmmmm :)

Alice Springs

Posted: September 30, 2010 in Uncategorized

The Aboriginal people have made their home in the Central Australian desert in Alice Springs for more than 50,000 years.

Cars in Alice aren’t very clean ;) Red dust from the desert is everywhere!

Beer opener made from kangaroo… balls:)

Local market.

Unfortunately you don’t see many Aboriginals looking like that.

Most of the time they look like that…

Supporting local artists ;)

Gathering in a local saloon.  Customers can drink beer, eat nuts and throw nut shells on the floor.

freak show

Kissing punk pigeons.

Dining room in our hostel. Let’s eat something before safari on the desert:)

Melbourne

Posted: September 30, 2010 in Uncategorized

Melbourne, one of the biggest cities in Australia. It’s very similar to cities in Europe. So I felt like home for a moment!:) I went there at the end of winter, September(Australia-everything is the other way around) most of the time it was cold, rainy, overcast and windy. Temperature around 13. Brrrrrr… It didn’t feel like Australia to me.

Free tram!

It’s only an illusion…

Concrete trees.

According to this board, Polsih People speak Polish, German and Yiddish! Yiddish?????

First night in Melbourne I spent in Crown Casino, which is the largest Casino in Australia.

Australians are gamblers. They love slot machines which they call pokies. They spend fortunes in this kind of places. I didn’t want to spend a fortune:) I promised myself that I’ll throw $2 coin  into a pokie and I’ll see what happens. At the place we applied for a membership cards to get our fee lockers and to receive a $5 voucher! Yey!

I’ve lost of course. My membership card didn’t work, so I had to spent $2 on a locker:) Anyway I kept my promise, $2 in Casino :)

Balance at the end of the day: Kane -$150, Naoko -$20, Eriko +$10.

Unfortunately I couldn’t take any photos inside. I manged to take only one. Interiors were  fancy looking.

The city is full of markets, where you can buy absolutely everything.

Keypad rings

Pencil earrings

I have no ide what this picture is about. It looks like Jesus with three eyes is reading to a kangaroo and some other animals. hmmm…

An what I like the most!!!!!! :D

Living creatures…. Who can spot a death on 8 legs?

Luckily it’s a photo taken in Melbourne Museum…. and so the others…

Waiting for a plane to Alice Springs. 6:50am…

Take the rain away Doll

Posted: September 16, 2010 in Uncategorized

In Japanese culture if you really want something to happen you have to make a Doll and hang it somewhere… Together with Eriko we checked the weather for our trip and it suppose to rain!! How the hell will we sleep on the desert in our sleeping-bags when it rains?  It can’t happen!! We  want to sleep under the sky and see millions of stars!! So Doll please, make the rain come the other days. Thank you.

I’ve also made one more doll for something else… So hopefully my little Dolls will help me :)

Hey! Let me take you all on a walk along the Currumbin Beach to enjoy Swell Sculpture Festival. Unfortunately most of you can’t attend it. Shame. Really. Under the open sky, 1km long walkway full of sculptures made mainly by Australian artists inspires and amuses at the same time.

Not snake! Just a lizard. Harmless…

This is Eriko, just to make it clear she isn’t a sculpture:)

Roots of a tree.

I think there was hundreds of these funny flies. Fasten on the fence… Who made them?  an insane artist? :)

…and this would be the end of the walk among Currumbin beach….

Whales Watching

Posted: September 9, 2010 in Uncategorized

Another good trip – watching whales from a boat from Coolangatta!

Whales watchers:

Camilla seems to like a lot her life jacket:)

Most of the time you can’t see a whale at all. Just a splash of the water, which they are making with their tails. Small splash-small whale, big splash-big whale. I would say that that photo under represents a big splash:)

Adult whales are huuuuge! One whale can weigh the same as 11 elephants or 500 people!

the closest I could get…

Two calves. How sweet:)

Shame that they didn’t want to jump out of the water. Sometimes they do that, but no one  knows why…  Maybe next time:)

Byron Bay

Posted: September 9, 2010 in Uncategorized

Byron Bay is a really cool place to go for a day trip.  Many restaurants, good shops and a beautiful scenery.

And this is a place where I was surfing for the first time in my life!! :) awesome!!!

Camilla, Mike – wonderful surfing teachers!

Fight Night in Brisbane

Posted: August 28, 2010 in Uncategorized

On Friday night I went to Brisbane to watch some guys fighting  in a cage:)  For the first time in my life I saw a cage!  Basically it’s a space surrounded by wires and metal bars…

These guys  were the stars of the night. They performed mix of Martial Arts and it looked really good. First guy from the left, Daniel is my other Polish friend-Ania, teacher. We went there together with a bunch of her friends, all of them were martial arts fighters.

Interesting thing… people were sitting at the tables around the cage and they were having dinners like in the restaurant:) Enjoy!!

Ania:)

Guys were strong…

very fit..

… and bendy :)

My website is finally done!

Posted: August 23, 2010 in Uncategorized

After few weeks of editing, changing and adjusting I managed to design and crate my own website. At the moment it’s a collection of photos mostly of my dear friends:) plus some places I’ve been to. Commercial part needs to get better, I have some ideas in my head just need some more time to work on it. Hopefully you will like it :)

Making money out of photography…

Out dear teacher has assigned us a job. Taking photos of dancers at different schools.

200  dancers – 5 days

Some of these photos were taken by Chris – our assistant. It’s really handy to have an assistant. If you are hungry you can send him to the shop to buy some sandwiches for you:) Everyone should have an assistant!! :)

So.. we had dancers…

and  cheerleaders…

jumping dancers…

and jumping Camilla…

I always wanted to be a cheerleader ;)

more dancers….

Thanks God I wasn’t there on my own. more more and more dancers….. :)

Output of our work!

And she is the cutest girl ever! Attending dancing classes at the age 2 or 3 (don’t remember) But still.. I’m impressed!!

2 days behind us… 3 in front of us…. fingers crossed everything will as good as so far :)

Springbrook National Park

Posted: August 5, 2010 in Uncategorized

Another school trip to a park  40 km away from GC.

Our first school trip! Really nice place to take some good shots of nature, landscapes and spiders :)

Long long way… Gdansk- Bergen- London- Kuala Lumpur- Gold Coast…

25 hours in plane in total …

Kuala Lumpur is petty cool place. But I would recommend to stay there for a bit longer that few hours ;P

Local transport is good. Many fast trains, but unfortunately with many  different providers. So for every single journey you have to buy different ticket. Anyway it was very cheap.

I had a nice walk through the city centre. I could see everything from really modern buildings to abandoned cars.

Shopping is really good in Kuala Lumpur. I’ve seen so many expensive designers shops but also whole shopping centres where you could buy literally everything. Kind of local market feeling :)

It was f***  hot…

and you had to watch your back. Snatch thief is always around there :)

.

Great mix of people.

.

Do you know that in many parts of the Muslim World, squat toilets are the norm and toilet paper remains rare.

An there are more rituals for you, for example, when you visit toilet you must observe the following

Offer prayer before entering the lavatory.

Do not defecate facing the Qibla.

Do not use toilet paper; instead, use stones-at least three

Do not touch penis with your right hand while urinating in the lavatory.

After doing your business clean your backside with water; do not use right hand, use left hand.

As a final warning: do not expose your genitals to the sky, Allah may be offended.

Yeah… that’s all true.

Anyway I enjoyed it a lot :)
